It was incredibly thoughtful of Spuyten Duyvil to double the capacity of their gorgeous back garden for our New York City Coffee People Spring Fling, the fourth installment of a very informal (meaning I only got half a beer spilled on me, and it was my fault) gathering of All The Coffee People In New York That You Can Possibly Fit Into A Space Gathering. It’s not a barista jam, a symposium, a throwdown or anything of the sort — it’s just people who work across all different shops and companies, from roasters to operations managers to sales people to dozens of front-line baristas and their pals, coming out to kick it and remind themselves why the truly diverse coffee scene in NYC is so rich for us all.
Thanks to everyone who came out, from Oslo, Norway to Oslo Coffee around the corner on Roebling. We saw three countries and three boroughs representing proudly last night, comprising coffee peeps from Gimme!, Stumptown, Cafe Grumpy, Ninth Street Espresso, Kaffe 1668, Variety Coffee, Second Stop, Cafe Pedlar, Southside Coffee, Plowshares, Temp Tamp, Everyman Espresso, Third Rail, Frankie’s 457, Sweet Leaf, Simon Sips, Oslo, Joe the Art of Coffee, Counter Culture Coffee, Intelligentsia Coffee and Tea, and out of town guests from Kaffa, Barismo, Tim Wendleboe, Octane, and Cosmic Cup. I counted at least 60 people and there were at least another dozen I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet.
Hells yeah!
And raise another one on the patio for my co-hosts when you get the chance. An awesome and inclusive coffee community doesn’t happen by itself. You gotta team up and make shit happen. Thanks, Ed and MW. You guys are the best.
